The team at the East End Marine Park has a big mission! Their small staff protects the vulnerable habitats along the park’s 17 miles of coastline and nearly 60 square miles of total water area. Each day they work to preserve the habitats and the nearly 400 species of animals that call the park home.
They could not accomplish this mission without the help of some special “friends”. The non-profit Friends of the East End Marine Park was established in 2016 to work collaboratively with the Park’s team. Our mission is to raise awareness, generate funds for discretionary use, and to tackle special projects within the park but outside of the realistic capabilities of the small Park staff. The Friends of the East End Marine Park welcome volunteers and visitors to partake in a variety of activities throughout the year. These include regular commitment initiatives like Coral Patrol, Turtle Patrol, and Seagrass Patrol as well as other work and outreach events. These activities can’t happen without some special friends inside of the Friends!
We, the Friends of the East End Marine Park, are looking to expand our group of core volunteers. We welcome all volunteers, but we are currently looking for leaders to help us on a regular basis. The people in these roles act much as our volunteer force does today but more regularly and in a leadership capacity. This is the perfect opportunity for people who like to engage the community and create and execute exciting, short-span special projects. If you enjoy working on nature initiatives, coordinating and working with the public from youths to seasoned adults, and you want to be a part of the incredible, growing mission of the East End Marine Park then we want to hear from you!
